Today was the sunniest it has been for ages! I thought before I started work I'd take the opportunity to sit out and enjoy it, so I grabbed my sketchbook and stationery and began drawing.
I've been trying to get back into drawing for fun again. Since being at university I find it challenging sometimes to find time to draw just for the sheer enjoyment of it and not just for whatever module I'm working on at the time. But when I do set time aside to draw for fun I find it the most relaxing thing in the world. From being a kid I could always switch off when I draw and completely immerse myself in what i was creating. It felt almost meditative for me in some ways.I decided to focus my drawing today on one of my favourite things to draw which is Manga. I've always been in awe of this style and Anime from a young age from growing up watching Pokémon, Cardcaptors, Yugi-Oh, Digimon and many more. When I was 12 I was introduced to this art style properly during my Saturday art classes I used to attend where my friends, Eugenie and Matt taught me this style of drawing and I absolutely fell in love with it.
I had a strong bout of creativity today and felt motivated to sketch some images from one of my favourite How To Draw Manga book series, a series I've had also since I was around 12/13 years old. I ended up drawing 5 images out of the book which I then hope to experiment with in my spare time by scanning them onto my laptop and edit them using digital media such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. A skill I'm in the process of learning whilst studying at university at the moment. I hope from doing such experiments that I can develop my skills in digital art for my future modules as my preferred art style is more traditional but being able to use digital software is required for my degree.
I still have a few more images I want to draw in this sketchbook during my spare time. My plan is to fill this entire sketchbook with Manga and Anime style drawings!
