5 Must Visit Places In Vladivostok*

If you are planning the holiday of a lifetime on the Trans-Siberian Railway and are including Vladivostok to your itinerary, there are many interesting venues to see. This is the Eastern most city in Russia and Vladivostok has a long and colourful history, while also being the main base for the Russian navy. In order to help you plan the perfect holiday, here are a few of the best local attractions in the unique city of Vladivostok.

  1. The Russian Opera House
     – Built in 2012, the Russian Opera House is certainly worth a visit, and its unique “cube within a cube” design is in sharp contrast to the majestic buildings that were built hundreds of years ago. Probably the most modern building in eastern Russia, there are three main sections; the Grand Hall, the Summer Stage and the Small Stage, and depending on the time of your visit, you should be able to see at least one performance.

  1. Vladivostok Train Station – You will arrive at this amazing station as your final destination if you are taking one of the Moscow to Vladivostok trans-Siberian railway toursand the architecture is stunning. Take some photos standing outside the entrance and post them on your social media pages, which is sure to delight your friends, and the colourful mosaics were inspired by Moscow train station, which looks very similar.

  1. Eagle’s Nest Hill – No visit to Vladivostok would be complete without sampling the panoramic view from Eagle’s Nest Hill, which is the highest point in Vladivostok. This is also the geographical centre of the city, which means you get a full 360-degree view of this amazing city. The hill is actually an extinct volcano and does warrant a visit, if only for the stunning views, and it can be accessed via the funicular, or if you are feeling energetic, why not hike up the hill?

  1. Zarya Centre for Contemporary Art – Created in 2013, the Zarya Centre is a place when you can view, and interact with many forms of art. The centre was built in the loft of a disused factory and it welcomes people from all walks of life, with regular seminars and lectures on a diverse range of topics. There is a great review from TripAdvisor to whet your appetite, which gives you all the details of what to expect when you visit the Zarya Centre for Contemporary Art.

  1. S-56 Submarine Museum – The S-56 submarine is 80 years old and was decommissioned in 1975, and is not an interesting museum that depicts what life was like onboard the vessel. You can view both the interior and exterior of the submarine, and it will likely be the only chance you get to step into a Russian submarine. |

  2. If you have yet to make your booking, an online search will help you locate an established tour operator who can help you plan the perfect holiday on the Trans-Siberian Railway, which either begins or ends in Vladivostok. The tour company can advise you on every aspect of the trip, including preferred routes and the best times to visit.
