Lunch At Las Iguanas

Today my lovely friend Hannah and I jumped on the metro through to Newcastle for some lunch at Las Iguanas. This Latin American themed chain restaurant is situated on Grey Street and just a short walk south from Monument metro station. I've been a handful of times for cocktails and a light bite and have been very impressed with the quality of the drinks and food I've tried previously, but this time I was particularly excited to come back and try the menu properly. As someone who has grown up being told she's fussy with her eating habits (and I was for the most part), I was anxious about what I would have. I'd grown up with apprehension to branching out and trying new foods, but in later years I have been more willing to step out of my comfort zone. Providing I can scour the menu beforehand!

After Hannah showed me the menu, I was completely put at ease at the choice of dishes to choose from. We were both particularly keen to try one mouthwatering dish: The Cheesy Peru Fondue. It did not disappoint! We shared the melted cheese dish with the patatas bravas included as we felt it could be quite filling for a starter and it is honestly one of the best dishes I've ever had! As someone who is so fussy, finding a dish I love is a rarity for me, ha! It was filling for the two of us, but we managed to make room for our mains. Although in future, I'd happily have the fondue as a main as I enjoyed it that much. I've since found the recipe to make it on the Las Iguanas website, so I'll definitely be giving that one a go!

For my main I decided to play it relatively safe and opt for the nachos, which included cheese, guacamole, sour cream and salsa. The waitress suggested the chilli on top which sounded delicious. Feeling brave, I decided to try it out. Although it was delicious, I think I'd probably enjoy them more separately as it was a bit sloppy to eat and I'm not the neatest of eaters at the best of times, but nevertheless another enjoyable meal to be had and washed down with their 2 for 1 cocktails of Margaritas (my favourites) and sampling the Flamingo A-go-go cocktails with cute flamingo cups to suit. Good food, drinks and amazing company! What more could a girl ask for?

Cheesy Peru Fondue: Mild cheddar and smoked applewood cheddar mixed with Amarillo chilli paste with crispy patatas bravas for dunking. YUM!

Nachos: Corn tortilla chips with melted cheese, sour cream, salsa, guacamole and topped with chilli.

Flamingo A-go-go: Olmeca Atlos Blanco 100% Agave Tequila, Malibu, Funkin strawberry purée, sherbet, lime, coconut water and lemonade. A sweet treat!
