A Spontaneous Trip To Penshaw Monument

Today I decided to take myself out on one of my spontaneous solo adventures and drove to Penshaw for a walk up to Penshaw Monument. It was a lovely, sunny day with a gentle breeze which made it an ideal temperature for ascending the many steps up to the monument. I popped my earphones in and began the walk. The walk is a good test of fitness levels and mine are shocking ha! I was shattered by the time I got to the top haha!

Once I reached the top I sat on the floor of the monument with my feet dangling over the edge, listening to my Ipod, looking out and watching the world go by. The view of Herrington Park from the top is wonderful from up there. There wasn't anyone around so I spent 2 hours enjoying complete solitude and peace and quiet. It was sheer bliss!

After taking in the beautiful, natural surroundings I began the descent, which was a lot easier than the walk up! Once I made it to the exit it was time to reward myself with a visit to Penshaw Tearooms, which is a short walk from the monument. I found a seat on one of the picnic benches outside and treated myself to two cheese scones smothered in butter and washed it down with a can of coke. A delicious treat with a scenic view of Penshaw Monument was a lovely end to a lovely afternoon.
