How To Combat The January Blues


First of all, I want to take this moment to say thank you all so much for your kind and encouraging words regarding my January Blues post. I was inundated with so much love and support from people both online and offline and it made me feel less alone, so thank you very much from the bottom of my heart!

At present, while things are not 100% back to normal, they are getting better. To be honest, I don't think it will ever go back to the way it was but those who were causing me such emotional and mental exhaustion have finally realised they need to back off now and that has been a weight lifted.

While I was going through that low phase in my life, I took a few small steps on the days when I felt less overwhelmed to tackle everyday tasks and I tried to slowly put my life back in order in the areas I felt I could control which left me with a bit more mental, emotional and physical capacity to handle the areas out of my hands. Here are some of the ways I combatted my January blues. I am no expert by any means and if you really are struggling then please do talk to someone and get the right help you need. But if you're like me and needed a little boost, here is my advice:

♥ Take a break from social media

♥ Unfollow those who don't inspire you and motivate you

♥ Put yourself, your feelings and happiness first

♥ Put time aside to focus on yourself and your needs

♥ Unsubscribe from newsletters that clutter your email inbox

♥ Delete and organise emails

♥ Make a "To Do" lists for every aspect of your life you want to organise

♥ Surround yourself with those who love and support you

♥ Have a declutter of your space, room or home

♥ Declutter your life, step by step, day by day

♥ Escapism through a video game, a book or a tv show

♥ Go for a drive

♥ Write your feelings down

♥ Spend time outside whether alone or with friends

♥ Do an activity that relaxes you and makes you feel happy

♥ Delete. Delete. Delete. Anything that overwhelms you or gives you negative energy

♥ Practise self-care

♥ Treat yourself to something that brings you joy

♥ Reduce your screen time

♥ Speak to a loved one on the phone

♥ Spend quality time with loved ones
